My husband has TBI

My husband was a courier. On January 16th his truck slid on ice onto a train track and was hit by a freight train. He was ejected from the truck and the air lifted to the Ottawa Civic Hospital.  He was in ICU but now has been transferred to the trauma ward. I was just informed he needs to go to hospice. I am devastated all over again. Every day seems like a nightmare. I don't know what to expect. I was a tiny bit hopeful for a better outcome of this tragedy of events.

Dear DebG,
In the blink of an eye the man you shared life with is no longer able to help making decisions or support you in this great sadness. Do you have a trusted friend or family member who could come alongside you - be with you when you talk with the  medical team, be an additional set of ears, and when you need to talk, or sit in silence or scream your pain? Another person to ask questions and hear the answers? The Brain Injury Canada site, has a link that might be able to connect you with support as well in your community Brain Injury Connect. On this site, there were a couple of sentences that stood out to me:

"Remember your loved on trusted you... they believed in you and your judgement. It's an impossibly hard situation to be in. Lean on your supporters, talk to the doctors, and most importantly trust in yourself and the information you have received."

I also suggest the My Grief resource, Grieving before the loss as a way of helping you make your way through on this road you did not choose.

I really encourage you to reach out to the people caring for and supporting your husband. And please if you are able let us know here on the forum how you are doing.

Katherine

Hi Debg,
Just wondering how the last months have been for you and your husband.

Kind regards,
