Dr. Stephen Claxton-Oldfield is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Mount Allison University. His main area of research focuses on the people who volunteer in hospice palliative care. He is interested in what motivates people to volunteer in hospice palliative care, the roles that volunteers play in hospice palliative care, the impact of volunteering on the volunteers as well as on the dying person’s family, how to retain volunteers, and so on. His research findings have been published in journals such as Journal of Palliative Care and the American Journal of Hospice & Palliative Medicine. He is also a member of the Volunteer Issues Task Group of the Canadian Hospice Palliative Association, serves on the board of Hospice Greater Moncton, and is a trained volunteer.
