2nd opinion in another province

My wife is just diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, stage 4, inoperable. We live in Saskatchewan. Is it possible to get a 2nd opinion in another province, or is it easier and quicker to just go to the U.S., like the Mayo clinic?

Hello Jeff,

I am so glad you found the forum.  I hear your question, I know your concern to find an answer, to reach out for the very best support and care for your wife.  It is what we all want to do - get the best care.  

I dont have the answer, I am wondering if your own doctor can direct you to second opinion?
I know that many do try to find answers and best care from other parts of Canada, and from the US.  I hope that you find what you need.

In the meantime this forum is here for you, we all are caregivers, family members, and loved ones just like you - and we listen best.

Update when you can, and knoiw that you can let your hair down here, you can be anonymous here.  It helps to share feelings and know others have some understanding of the same journey.

I am curious about your question.
Do you mean to question the diagnosis, or the fact that they say it is inoperable? 
Bile duct cancer is something I'd never heard of.

If you are questionning the diagnosis, it seems a rare disease, 2 out of 100,000 people have it, usually diagnosed long after symptoms appear.

I did one quick search of Google, and they way that by the time it is diagnoses it is too late to treat it.

I did a bit of research.

Two sources: the first [gov. means it is government]  is a good one: 

Cancerous tumors of the bile ducts are usually slow-growing and do not spread (metastasize) quickly. However, many of these tumors are already quite advanced by the time they are found.

Cholangiocarcinoma is considered to be an incurable and rapidly lethal malignancy unless both the primary tumor and any metastases can be fully resected (removed surgically). No potentially curative treatment yet exists except surgery, but most patients have advanced stage disease at presentation and are inoperable at the time of diagnosis.
