Hi Jenn
Thanks so much for posting this information. How did you hear about the Webinar? What for you were the highlights of the presentations? I am thinking there may be others who are interested in the content - were there particular points that you think would resonate with the discussion group community?

Thanks again

Katherine

I'm in several Listservs, Katherine. A voracious reader, I hope to prevent others from facing the issues I faced whilst managing mom's and dad's respective cancers, at the same time!

Here is another resource, I was sent a book for review. It is excellent.
Coaching for Caregivers: How to reach out before you burn out.

He is a US author and lifecoach, but the principles of caregiving are the same. Also, he recommends a couple of sites where caregivers can co-ordinate care from afar. An excellent resource.
I haven't had time to watch the seminar. This volunteering isn't for chumps! I was tutoring some pregnant teen age girls yesterday, and checking in with my hospice client, who has leukemia.

Perhaps you have time to watch it?

Since my parents died, and I quit my job, I have been unable to find a job. I keep busy with volunteer work. It's been very disappointing. I keep trying volunteer work that might lead to real employment, but so far I've found that many do not want to hire me!
I cannot even get job interviews. I should have taken leave from my job, as I qualified for long-term disability, but I didn't feel that was right. Am I ever sorry.

That is a very long webinar. 1 hour 45 minutes. There are a few lessons for those who grieve. Not much for those caring for someone.

Hi
Thank you for that book referral Jenn. It often seems the greatest life lessons do not come without hardship. I read a quote by Soren Kierkegaard "Life must be understood backwards."
I was wondering what you think about the idea of changing the subject line of this thread to something like, "Webinars for caregivers - collected by JennJilks" - it seems you have access to a wealth of information that could benefit others in the community. This way - if you wanted - you could update on webinars that you are aware of and give a brief review including the link to the resource, how long, who it is aimed at, who is presenting and highlights. What do you think?

Thanks again Jenn for bringing the book and webinar to our attention. Thinking of you with warmth here in chilly Winnipeg.

Sure, Katherine. Anything for some web traffic. My book isn't selling anymore, even though it includes numerous lessons for caregivers. I'm pretty discouraged. I haven't had too many speaking opportunities, either, although I presented at the NSM Palliative Care Conference in 2010, and sold 24 books! My local hospice has bought my books at cost, and I have donated a lot of them, as gifts for guest speakers. That has been a blessing. No sense in them sitting in a warehouse for the next 50 years!

Some have been bought by our local CCAC to give to new PSWs, but one told me she hadn't bothered to read it. Terribly discouraging. Both family members and support workers would benefit.
Your quote is comforting. When I bemoan how much it cost me to publish it, hubby says it was a good goal to have accomplished. (I was going to write a book about teaching!)
